With spring coming we are always excited about summer but along with this season we see tons of garbage polluting our environment. Let's clean up the Seine river before summer while enjoying the fresh air on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018!
This idea came to surface 2 years ago while a friend and I paddled down the Seine River. We ended up filling a bag and a half full of garbage!...Now just imagine the productivity it would make if we all came together for a few hours!!
Last year with a group of 12 people we were able to pick up around 25 bags of trash and plastic from the path and the river itself. It would be awesome to see more of us to be able to get as much as we can to prevent as ...much trash from getting into the oceans.
We can make a difference in our community by taking an afternoon to clean up our local Seine River. To bring this into perspective, Seine River runs into the Red River flowing into Lake Winnipeg. Lake Winnipeg then empties into the Hudson Bay waters through the Churchill River and many other streams. In short, whereever our trash is being left behind either in rural or urban areas, this pollution always end up in our oceans.
***Gloves, hand sanitizer, garbage bags and picking sticks are highly recommended for this afternoon of garbage clearing and of course keeping ourselves safe and sanitary! Please remember to wear rubber boots and dress accordingly to the weather. It will definitly be muddy so wearing clothing you wont mind getting dirty will be best! Make a group of friend and family member or anyone from the community you may know and start from any local Seine River trail to begin!
You can find these trails all through different parts of Winnipeg. Google search walking paths by seine river and you will be able to find some gems!
Lets begin this year with cleaning the paths to avoid any further plastic and garbage to land in our beautiful river. Let's clean up our river so that we may enjoy it for the summer and keep the planet a little cleaner :)
